Scientific Societies and Networks

Objetivos
The SEPA-interea Research Group (GI-1447) aims to contribute to the consolidation of Social Pedagogy and Environmental Education as areas of knowledge relevant to the Social and Human Sciences and, more specifically, to the Education Sciences. It does so through committed, innovative scientific and academic activity and ongoing dialogue with various social and institutional agents. It promotes new ways of understanding education in society, proposing strategies that contribute to people’s wellbeing and quality of life.
To this end, the SEPA-interea Group has set itself the following fundamental objectives:
To encourage and support the creation, development and transfer of scientific knowledge in the fields of Social Pedagogy and Environmental Education.
To develop academic and scientific collaboration projects and contracts (training, research, innovation, etc.) with various entities, groups and educational and social institutions, both locally and internationally.
To act as a platform for the production and dissemination of knowledge among teaching and research communities in different contexts, territories and social realities.
To contribute to the training of teaching and research staff, as well as professionals in Social Pedagogy and Environmental Education.
To encourage and support the completion of research work with different profiles and contributions (doctoral theses, evaluation and advisory reports, etc.).
Research Lines
The SEPA-interea research group has extensive experience in the field of Social Pedagogy and Environmental Education. In this regard, its scientific and academic activity, and the R&D&I lines in which it participates, are structured around a dual complementary task: on the one hand, to contribute to the development of educational research in and for society; on the other hand, promoting new perspectives in society on the potential of educational research to respond to the needs and demands that improve the quality of education, people’s well-being and human development in different contexts and realities.
To achieve this task, the group is focusing its contributions (projects, publications, etc.) on the following lines of research:
Social pedagogy, education for citizenship and human rights
Environmental education and culture of sustainability
Education and communication for the climate emergency
Education and community development
Education, gender and social equity
Educational and social times, pedagogy of leisure
History of education and culture

Research team

The SEPA-interea Group’s fundamental value is to contribute to the development of research in Social Pedagogy and Environmental Education committed to civic values and human rights, through academic and research work that responds to the challenges of contemporary society from an ethical, pedagogical and social perspective.
To this end, the SEPA-interea Group has a large research team made up of 28 members (including teaching and research staff, research staff in training and those contracted for research activities) and 45 external collaborators. This team, coordinated by Professor Pablo Ángel Meira Cartea, has a proven track record of extensive and diversified knowledge transfer, reflected in articles, book chapters, books, manuals, reports, and other outputs. Over the last ten years, more than 200 articles have been published in national and international journals, many of them in indexed publications with a relative quality index (ISI-JCR, SCOPUS, etc.). In addition to this output, the group has supervised and tutored numerous doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s theses.
Furthermore, the group maintains a high level of external funding, achieved through participation in competitive calls for proposals. Thus, in the last decade, it has achieved recognition for more than twenty projects at European, national and regional level, as well as various contracts with both public and private companies and entities.
It has also promoted, organised and participated in numerous international and national conferences and seminars, linked to networks, entities and groups with which it maintains ongoing collaboration in different countries and locations around the world. Added to this is its active participation in scientific societies and initiatives committed to a critical and transformative vision of education.
